我常用此图来告诫学生--we still have a long way to go.

1. She is red with anger。

2. All the family is in the pink。

3. Do you see any green in my eye?

4. You get a chance like this only once in a blue moon。

5. Though I believe in telling the truth, I think a white lie is sometimes justified。

6. He insisted on putting the agreement down in black and white。

7. I can’t even talk about it, except to you, because anybody else would think I was yellow。

White(白色):对多数中国人和西方人来说,白色所引起的联想有一些是相近的:purity(洁白), innocence(清白无辜)。

如:blacklist(黑名单),black market(黑市),black-hearted(黑心的),black sheep(害群之马)等。

It was blue Monday and he just didn't feel like going back to work.

美国人谈到皮肉受伤时说be bruised black and blue, 而中国人则说“被打得青一块,紫一块”(直译为:be beaten blue and Purple,当然应译为地道的英语be beaten black and blue)。

Black sheep:a member of a group that stands in conspicuous and unfavorable contrast to the other members. From the proverb:there is a black sheep in every flock. Long times ago, white sheep were valuable than the balck ones. Because the fur of the black sheep was difficult to be dyed into other colors, so its practical value is relatively lower than the white ones. And people thought that the black sheep made other sheep afraid, so most owners didn't like black sheep. From 18th century, people began to call the family members those who are not popular a "black sheep".
